That day again...

So, it's New Years eve and I can think of no better way to spend my night than to chat with my favorite readers. Honestly, I mean that. I also wanted one more post for 2009. I don't want people to know I'm a bit of a slacker. Cat's out of the bag on that one.

Now if you will allow, on to the cliche...

As the clock ticks closer to midnight I can't help but think of the new, exciting prospects for the new year. New plans, new views, new adventures, new gadgets...yeah, that's right, new gadgets. Who doesn't hope that their new year is full of peace, prosperity, luck, and new toys?

For Christmas this year I received an Amazon Kindle (2nd Generation. swanky, swanky). I adore this contraption. As an enlgish major I will be the first to complain about the amount of text books college students are required to own and carry at a single moment in time. While we are on the subject, I also find it appropriate to complain about how all of my English classes are scheduled on the same day and one directly after another, but that's another irrelevant post entirely. There is none of this running back to the dorm to pick up/drop off your books mumbo jumbo, it's more of a grab and go kind of process over at Sweet Briar. And by "grab and go" i mean "throw items all over your dorm room looking for your 10 different novels and then lugging them up 3 flights of stairs after dragging them across campus" BUT ANYWAY. Kindle = god send for the english major in your life. This gidgy gadge can hold up to 1,000 + books, including picture and Mp3s. Life doesn't get better but it did get me thinking about my beloved cookbooks...

*day dream*

How great would it be to have all of my recipes stored in this one, secure location ready for me at a moments notice? At this point in my life I am lucky if I am able to locate a recipe I need without digging through files on my computer and yanking pages out of old cookbooks on the bookshelf. I know what you are probably saying, "why don't you just write down the recipes you want in a notebook or something so they are all together?" because, my friend, if i told you i did that already than there would be no point in me showing you this awesome thing I found. It's going to be worth it, I promise.

Anyway, as I was stumbling (stumble bar...get one. You'll never work again. That may be a good or bad thing, you be the judge) I came across this little beauty, the Demy.

Like the Kindle, the Demy's a god send and makes a busy baker's life so much simpler and you a little lazier. Love it! Gosh, I'm so American. Anyway the Demy is the Amazon Kindle of the kitchen. It can store up to 2,000 + recipes that you are able to download straight from your computer on to the device. Its strong plastic exterior and screen are mess resistant, easy to clean and the Demy can be set up multiple ways so that you can maximize your counter space. If you're like me, you like to pretend you're on a cooking show when baking, jazzy and extravagant arm movements included, you need all the counter space you can spare. The Demy also includes an index so looking up recipes is a breeze and there is also an option to create favorites so if you find yourself baking a lot of strudel or perhaps crumpets you can push the little heart button and all of your favs. are ready to roll. And if your mind isn't completely blown yet there is also a timer, converter, and a substitute option. It's like having your own little Su chef with you at home...a really smart one...without all that added sass. Oh yeah, it's also all touch screen. You're welcome.

Of course fancy shmancy stuff like this doesn't come cheap. The Demy comes in at around $300, oh wait... $299.95...but we all know that's not fooling anyone. We too smart, mydemy.com people. But just think of all that money you'll be saving on paper and books. But, hey, if you find yourself in a bit of a bind when it comes to money and you can't splurge there's nothing wrong with that good notebook idea we had earlier. I can do a post about notebooks if you want. You just let me know. It can be between the two of us.

Up and Running...for now

Hi Savvy Sweetians,

Is that what they are calling you these days? Who knows now. So, I am back to restore your good faith in my blogging ability. I am also on Christmas break and with all of this free time on my hands I found it the perfect opportunity to rekindle this flame of ours. So, how have you been?

I guess a reintroduction is on order. Hi, my name is Meaghan. I am an english and creative writing major at Sweet Briar college who enjoys dabbling in a little baking shenanigans. As you can see by previous posts to this blog Savvy Sweets is the remains of a failed homework assignment. 3 years ago I set out to make a consumer report blog for my introduction journalism class. It was all about fun dorm ideas and products. The name Savvy Sweets is evidence of my attempt to be clever. The blog was aimed towards the sweet briar community and said community being made up of mostly women, the name seemed brilliant...ok, maybe not brilliant, but definitely passable. It was all about the grade, people.

But fast forward to today, I find myself with 3 blogs, all of which have been neglected and abused. (RIP: The Inner Turmoils of a Teenage Werewolf, Ichabod's, and the original Savvy Sweets!) You can harass me about those names later. With all of that aside, as mentioned before, I am back now to restore your faith in my succesfuly blogging ability. Hi, mom.

Lucky for me I have come to find that the name Savvy Sweets is actually quite fitting for the blog I am going to attempt to get running. We're going to be heading in a different direction here at the Sweets headquarters. No more dorm product consumer reports, instead we are going to make our way into the kitchen. Savvy Sweets will now focus mainly on kitchen products and recipes, tested and proven to be awesome and at times even useful. Suggestions and ideas are always welcome. If you would like me to focus on a particular item or recipe for one week I will be more then happy to do the dirty work for you before you go out and spend the money. We'll have videos, photos, comments, and critiques posted weekly, so keep coming back and I'll keep doing my best to entertain and enlighten you...you love it!
